Improving the NOVA –University network

On the 18th and 19th of September we host the NOVA Strategy meeting and Board meeting here at NMBU, Campus Ås. The NOVA University Network – The Nordic Forestry, Veterinary and Agricultural University Network – is a platform for efficient and innovative Nordic cooperation.

NOVA was established in 1995 and has member institutions in all Nordic Countries. NMBU is currently chairing the NOVA Board and will host the Secretariat for three years starting 1st of January 2014. Our aim is to strengthen the NOVA platform throughout this period and making NOVA more accessible and efficient to students and teachers.

NOVAs main aim is to provide postgraduate students with high‐quality education in fields where the critical mass in one country alone would be too small, and in fields with a specific Nordic dimension. NOVA provides important benefit to the member institutions in increasing the course portfolio and providing doctoral students with high quality courses and valuable Nordic networking opportunities. Students part-taking in NOVA courses generally give very good feedback, and the students are represented in the NOVA student Board.

I’m looking forward to meeting our Nordic colleagues, to exciting discussions and important decisions for the year to come. We have invited two of our professors, Anne Marte Tronsmo and Shelley Egoz to talk about their experiences organizing courses through NOVA. We will also be presented the students’ perspective, from Hanna Castro and Luz Munoz.

Hopefully, we will gain new insights as to how to make NOVA an even more effective platform for arranging courses at the Nordic level.
